Recently, Google has made
updates that it will be going to provide SEOs with more freedom and
liberty to focus on users instead of bots. Google’s latest update is all about expanding
the use of natural language understanding algorithms. These algorithms will
represent a major evolution in determining what content will get surfaced in
the search results. In turn, these algorithms of Google will impact how people
are approaching content and optimization.
Google is also going to
start ranking passages in search results rather than only ranking the web pages in search engines.
Let’s understand this in a detailed manner to get a complete insight into it. Google
will now be able to surface and serve passages from the content. It will also
include in the SERPs if they think it is the best match for the search query.
Changes in BERT
Google believes that
approximately 7% of all search queries will get affected by this sort of change
if it came out into rolling. One of the big consequences of this would be related
to BERT factors. This means that Google ‘understands words in context’ rather
than indexing words. BERT will go from 10% to nearly 100% of all queries which
is again a big change. BERT is mainly a neural network-based technique that is
used for natural language pre-training that Google and other search engines
use. This huge application of BERT will help in improving the understanding of the
content and search intent of Google.
Mis-spelling improvements
According to Google, one
in ten search queries are misspelled. For improving the search experience for these
queries, Google is also in process of applying advancements in language
understanding. This will help to model the edge cases in major spelling errors.
